ROT - Official Exhibition Card

ROT - Artist Statement

Disenchanted
Mixed Media
18x24
2010

Disenchanted is an interpretation of the slow but gradual decline of humanity.
It is because of greed, envy and lust for power that has taken humanity to have animal instincts in which
there is no longer rational thinking and our actions are the cause of our self-inflicting wounds thus the inevitable end of our gift, Earth.

ROT - My Inspiration For My Drawing

Francis Bacon, Study after Velazquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X, Oil on canvas, 1953

"I would like my pictures to look as if a human being had passed between them, like a snail,
leaving a trail of the human presence and memory trace of past events as the snail leaves its slime."
- Francis Bacon

Yesterday, I talked about doing two drawings for the exhibition but
I rather do one 18x24 drawing and two 8x10 drawings in the same style.
It will contain everything I talked about, as you saw also in the sketch .
I am currently working on it and hopefully it will be finished by the 16th or 17th of March.

What do you think?

thoughts on rot

it would be interesting to bring together a variety of works evoking rot as defined in a broad sense as a deterioration whether of something physical, psychological or cultural. i also like the idea of something left to rot due to neglect.
