Using authentic handmade African artifacts as the substrate, I will collage images and text to reference cultural rot as manifested within African American society and proliferated through pop culture.

This is a photo of the pieces that I would like to work with, however it is not my intent to enter all of them into this show. At some point, audio/video accompaniment would be desirable, but that is something that will have to be added as the concept and series develops.

To give you a sense of scale, the drum is 11" in circumference. I haven't determined whether the piece will be presented contained within a some sort of frame or box or as an individual wall mounted artifact.
