Rot is often thought of as an end, yet it can also be a beginning, a fresh start from an old form (a fruit, an animal) into a new existence as something brand new (dirt, soil, energy.) Moving away from the literal, rot can be seen and experienced everywhere, in every aspect of the world and human life. Social decay, ruined monuments, America's melting pot wherein immigrants lose or drop their cultures in favor of being more "American" to be accepted.

An idea I have for a performance piece (if you guys will approve) is to project a looped film on a wall of homeless people digging through trash. In front of this wall, a pile of trash and myself laying among it. I hope to portray those who are the butt-end of economic decay, those poor and homeless who are given very little assistance. Instead, they are shoo-ed away from public areas, delegated to the fringes of society. They are left to rot.

LBCC design teacher, Sandra Low, has some very interesting pieces that play on this idea of cultural and social rot. ( have not asked her if these pieces are available, I just thought I would show you guys as a source of inspiration and possible works.)
